Columbia Montour Quarterly Vol. 1: July-September 2021

So we headed back out on Route 45 to Mifflinburg where Rusty Rail Brewing occupies an old factory building on North 8 th Street. Owners Paul and Eric John started Rusty Rail in 2013 with the first batch of beer brewed in the parking lot of the brewery. Originally a factory, the building now features several hand-painted murals, and some restored Ford trucks from the early 1900s that were built in the factory. Upstairs on

the second level, which recently reopened, there’s a Game Room, that has pool tables from the 1920s, shuffleboard, foosball, darts, video game tables, board games, six big- screen TVs and another full-service bar. Grab your friends and plan an evening! Or make a room reservation and stay overnight. Rusty Rail has luxury rooms to rent on the third floor that include a Jacuzzi and fireplace. By the time we arrived at the brewery, my traveling companion was ready for more beer. He chose “Single Jack,” a lager that the menu describes as slightly sweet and light-bodied. He described it as “excellent,” and it must have been because he ordered a second one! Since Rusty Rail also has a full bar with wine and specialty cocktails, I chose a glass of the Jacobs Creek chardonnay. Rusty Rail’s front signage & impressive parking lot vat; the brewery’s customized koozie, given away as their summer passport giveaway.
