RED

Seeing

by Linda Sones

I’ve been a farm girl since I was born. And as a farmer, you were either Red (International Harvester) or Green (John Deere). We were Red! Ever since I can remember, my father had an International Harvester Farmall “Super C”. He was famous for it. Not only did he tend our enormous garden in the summer, but he plowed us out every winter and occasionally pulled vehicles out of snow banks. Once he had our garden plowed or drive cleared, he would assist anyone else who requested his help. He was referred to as “Pappy”. “Pappy and his tractor” to be exact. When my father passed away, his tractor was bought by our cousins, Barb and Jack, who are very active in the International Harvester Collectors group and show with Bellona IH Club, Bellona, New York. They tore the tractor down to its nuts and bolts, refurbished it, gave it a new coat of paint, and now show it at the International Harvester’s events.
