2022 Columbia-Montour Visitors Guide

Columbia & Montour Counties are home to some fantastic mountain biking options. In Montour County, Danville leads the way with more than 32 miles of mountain biking trail options, spread between the Geisinger Stewardship Forest, Hopewell Park, and Hess Recreation Area. With 11+ miles of established trails, Geisinger Hospital’s Stewardship Forest trail network is a popular destination for seasoned mountain bikers. Many of the trails are challenging, but rewarding. All are named using various medical terms, including Punctured Lung, Broken Clavicle, Life Flight, and Concussion. Sweeping views of downtown Danville, the Susquehanna River, and the surrounding countryside are an added bonus for trail users. Located just down the road from the Stewardship Forest, Hopewell Park was Montour County’s first purpose-built mountain bike trail network. Built by mountain bikers for mountain bikers, the Hopewell Park / Danville Borough Farm Trail network is designed to challenge experienced riders while still allowing beginners to enjoy a great day on the trail. Trail creators made use of the natural terrain, but added enough twists and turns to keep visitors coming back for more. In southern Columbia County, the Weiser State Forest – Roaring Creek Tract boasts 64 miles of shared-use trails and forest roads that are available for mountain biking. For cyclists searching for a relatively flat ride, an 8-mile, shared-use trail runs the length of the valley on the Roaring Creek Tract. This trail offers a leisurely trip through the scenic valley and runs alongside a creek and three reservoirs.
