through local support. The museum also proudly displays an E Award flag, a rare honor given by the U.S. government to only about 5% of wartime manufacturers. The AC&F earned three. In just four years, the museum has welcomed more than 5,000 visitors and regularly hosts school groups, church groups, and community events. Berwick residents continue to donate artifacts from relatives who served or worked at the AC&F. “We have been a total volunteer organ- ization from the beginning, and it just keeps growing,” McLaughlin said. “In June, it’ll be 22 years we’ve been doing this, and we have come so far.” Berwick’s influence didn’t end with the AC&F. Today, the town continues to grow through small businesses and forward‑thinking partnerships. Amy Shortlidge, Marketing Director for the Berwick Industrial Development Association (B.I.D.A.), high- lighted one standout newcomer: “A new partner we’re working with is Mammoth I.T.— they recently moved into our industrial complex. They take old laptops and cell phones, recycle them, and put many of the refurbished laptops back into schools, which helps reduce e‑waste. They’ve also been hosting recycling days with local dignitaries, and several of our state representatives are working with them to securely dispose of their I.T. equipment. They’ve only been around for about a year, but they’re already making huge strides in the community.” Shortlidge ended our conversation saying: “if you

Innovation has always been part of the town’s DNA, and thanks to the volunteers at the Stuart Tank Memorial Museum, that history is not only remembered but actively taught. Upcoming Events April 18: Celebrating the 82nd anniversary of the last (15224th) Stuart Tank produced in Berwick, the four-year anniversary of the opening of the Stuart Tank Memorial Museum and the homecoming of one of the last remaining 1945 M37 Howitzer Motor Carriages design and built at AC&F Berwick. July 17–19: The 8th Annual Berwick WWII Weekend at Test Track Park, which draws nearly 4,000 visitors from across the country. Last year’s event featured 300 reenactors, dozens of WWII vehicles, and four operational Stuart tanks.
