The peace and tranquility of a vacation spent stream-side just can’t be beat, especially for angling enthusiasts. Envision casting your line and waiting for that monster fish to strike while you take in the picturesque surroundings. In Columbia & Montour Counties, you’ll find no shortage of fishing hot-spots and scenic surroundings. The north branch of the mighty Susquehanna River, the East Coast’s longest river, flows directly through both counties. For those enjoying its resources, it provides one of the best outlets for outdoor recreation in Pennsylvania. The Susquehanna, and other creeks and lakes in the counties, are home to Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, Channel and Bullhead Catfish, Bluegill, Yellow Perch, Walleye, Carp, Pan Fish, Crappie, and Tiger Muskellunge. Fishing Creek runs north-south through Columbia County and is considered to be one of the finest trout streams in Pennsylvania. For those looking to navigate still waters, Lake Chillisquaque, Lake Jean, and Briar Creek Lake are three area lakes where anglers can test their luck. And for fishing enthusiasts, our area features a special Master Angler Passport program, now in its second year. The program encourages anglers to catch, photograph, and release various species of fish in our counties to receive credit and have a chance to win prizes at the end of the year. Each Unique species caught will provide one point throughout the year. To learn more about the 2026 Master Angler Program, please visit: heartofpa.com/master-angler-passport or scan the QR code!
